Resonant coupling between bulk waves and guided modes in a dielectric slab with a thick holographic grating.

چکیده
What we believe to be a new type of resonant coupling of an incident bulk wave into guided modes of a slab with a thick holographic grating is shown to occur in the presence of strong frequency detunings of the Bragg condition. This happens through the reflection of the strongly noneigen +1 diffracted order with the slab-grating boundaries, the resultant reflected waves forming a guided slab mode. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis is used for the numerical analysis of the predicted resonant effects. Possible applications include enhanced options for the design of multiplexing and demultiplexing systems, optical signal-processing devices, optical sensors, and measurement techniques.

Determination of Resonance Frequency of Dominant and Higher Order Modes in Thin and Thick Circular Microstrip Patch Antennas with Superstrate by MWM (RESEARCH NOTE)
An accurate model named as the Modified Wolff Model (MWM) is presented as an efficient CAD tool for determination of resonant frequency of the dominant and higher order modes under the multi-layer condition in thin and thick circular microstrip patch antennas. The effects of dielectric cover on the resonant frequency obtained from MWM have been compared against the result of theoretical method ...
متن کاملExtremely asymmetrical scattering in gratings with varying mean structural parameters
Extremely asymmetrical scattering (EAS) is an unusual type of Bragg scattering in slanted periodic gratings with the scattered wave (the +1 diffracted order) propagating parallel to the grating boundaries. Here, a unique and strong sensitivity of EAS to small stepwise variations of mean structural parameters at the grating boundaries is predicted theoretically (by means of approximate and rigor...
متن کاملStanding waves on two-dimensional periodic dielectric waveguides
Guided modes of a periodic waveguide usually exist below the light line, if the minimum period of the waveguide is used in the definition, but for some periodic waveguides, there are standing waves with the same period as the waveguide. These non-propagating waves localized around the waveguide core are special guided modes above the light line with a zero wavenumber, and they are related to tr...
متن کاملGuided resonance in Photonic Crystals
The objective of this thesis research is to analyze the guided resonances in photonic crystal slabs. It introduces the different kinds of photonic crystals and focuses on photonic crystal slabs consisting of a square lattice of air holes. The guided resonances are created by the coupling between the guided modes above the light line and radiation modes. Specifically, we calculate the transmissi...
متن کاملNormal incidence filters using symmetry-protected modes in dielectric subwavelength gratings
We investigate narrowband transmission filters based on subwavelength-grating reflectors at normal incidence. Computational results show that the filtering is realized through symmetry-protected mode coupling. The guided mode resonances introduced by the slab layer allow flexible control of the filter frequencies. The quality factor of the filters could exceed 106. Dielectric gratings can be us...
